Digital Linguistics

Description

The Digital Linguistics focus area explores the intersection of language and technology, equipping students with computational methods to analyze and process linguistic data. It covers topics such as natural language processing (NLP), corpus linguistics, machine learning for language, and text mining. Students gain hands-on experience with programming, data-driven language modeling, and digital tools used in linguistic research. This specialization prepares graduates for careers in speech technology, language technology industries, and computational research. By combining linguistic theory with practical computational skills, Digital Linguistics bridges the gap between traditional linguistics and modern data science.

Helpful documents like sample curricula and the annex to the study regulations can be found in the download section

Language of instruction

Predominantly English. As soon as there is a student who does not speak German, the course will be held in English.

Workshop Week

Workshop week is offered every spring semester. It is usually with international exchange in the form of excursion abroad.

Depending on the possibilities, the following elements are part of the program:

  • Visiting universities and research centres
  • Exchange with students, doctoral students and lecturers
  • Presentation of own projects
  • Company visits
  • Participation in a conference or summer school.

The workshop week usually takes place at the end of the spring semester.
