Student Teaching Assistance (Tutorat)

Being a student assistant teacher (Tutor/in) is an excellent opportunity to experience working at University. Depending on the module, you will be asked to guide practice lessons, correct homework, and/or help students with questions about the course content.

If you have successfully completed a module, you may either be approached by your instructor or you may express your interest to be a teaching assistant. The instructor will then choose an appropriate assistant and contact the programme coordinator to initiate the employment procedure.

You may choose between receiving payment or 3 ECTS credits. Note, however, that if you choose payment, this will have to be approved by the department. The following modules require one or more student teaching assistants:

  • Language Data Acquisition (06SM271-517)
  • Language Data Processing (06SM271-518a)
  • Programming for Linguists (06SM271-518b)
  • Quantitative Methods (06SM271-516)

The specific modules booked for you if you choose ECTS for your teaching assistance will be Student Teaching Assistant 1 (06SM521-513) for the first tutorial and Student Teaching Assistant 2 (06SM521-516) for the second tutorial if you choose to be a tutor for a second time. Both modules fall under the module group Digital Linguistics and will therefore be allocated to this module group.
Being a teaching assistant for a module other than the compulsory methodology modules is possible. However, the module booked for you upon completion will still be allocated under the focus area Digital Linguistics.

Note: The School for Transdisciplinary Studies (STS) offers training modules for teaching assistants every semester. We cross-list them into the module group "further curricular modules" so you can gain ECTS. However, attendance is not mandatory to be a teaching assistant.
