Romance Linguistics
The focus area Romance Linguistics emphasizes the study of language change, variation, and the historical and cultural development of Romance languages. It offers a comprehensive exploration of both theoretical and applied linguistics across various Romance languages, including French, Italian, Spanish, and others. The core-elective modules cover topics such as historical Gallo-Romance linguistics, the teaching of foreign languages, and the study of linguistic variation within Romance-speaking regions. Courses like Linguistique historique galloromane and Investigaciones de Lingüística Sistémica provide insights into the evolution of Romance languages and their cultural contexts. Students also engage in advanced research methodologies, with modules such as Réalisations de recherche en linguistique and Dosier de Lingüística Iberorrománica. This focus area allows students to gain proficiency in multiple Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian, and more) while critically reflecting on contemporary linguistic debates and developing skills for advanced academic work in the field.
