Slavic Linguistics

The focus area Slavic Linguistics offers a comprehensive study of the Slavic languages through a comparative lens, examining their linguistic structures, variation, and historical development. Students explore the diverse dimensions of variation within Slavic languages, including phonological, morphological, and syntactic differences, and gain skills in linguistic description and analysis. The track emphasizes empirical research and the application of scientific methods to the study of Slavic languages, preparing students to engage in scholarly discourse within the field of Slavic linguistics. Students also develop proficiency in both written and spoken Slavic languages through targeted language courses that focus on grammar, reading, and writing skills. This focus area equips students with a deep understanding of the Slavic language family, preparing them for further research or professional roles in linguistics and related fields.
